Chapter Eight

The High Waterfall

It was not far to the High Waterfall and the seven were making good time following the river Easter and even Dork and Geewhizz were doing really well keeping up with the others.

The High Waterfall was not actually on the river Easter but on a small tributary of the Easter, the Frog river.  As they came to the river Frog, Terry checked his magical pocket watch, the lucky hand was still green but was now pointing up the river Frog.

After turning to follow the river Frog, the banks on each side of the river started to rise high above them and the trees lining the banks made it rather dark. So dark that none of them noticed two damp trolls, on the opposite side of the river, going in the opposite direction, carrying a large object wrapped in a spotted tablecloth.  Coincidentally the two damp trolls didn't notice, five trolls one small girl and a Snorkeldork going the other way either. The sound of the waterfall didn't help either or the sound of many the frogs croaking.

By the time the reached the High Waterfall, the seven friends were in a deep noisy gorge, filled with mist from the water cascading down. Terry and Norman climbed up and behind the High Waterfall but even though they found the magic hole, the entrance to Ralphy's lodging, they could not open it.

Hardraw Force

All trolls knew how to enter through a magic hole, but a magic hole could be closed with extra magic so that only the owner, the owners friends and relatives with the owners permission or someone with really strong magic could enter.  Most trolls however, would never close a magic hole this way, only one with something to hide would.  Trolls did not usually steal from each other, they did not usually steal at all, so there was no need to use extra magic on a magic hole.  Also no one came when they rang the bell (the magic bell that it).

Terry and Norman returned to the others, to explain that there didn't appear to be anyone home and besides that, they didn't even know if it was the lodging they were looking for. Terry,s checked his magical pocket watch again, and strangely the lucky hand was still green but now pointing back down the river Frog.

As they were discussing what it all meant and what to do next, a voice from above, called down, "can I help you". They all looked up but at first, they could not see where the voice had come from.  Then just to one side at the top of the High Waterfall, what appeared to be a very hairy bush said, "can I help you".

"Who is that" asked Terry, "who wants to know" said the very hairy bush. "I am Terry the Friendly Troll, with my friends and we are looking for the Waterfall Troll who lives behind the High Waterfall".

"Hello Terry the Friendly Troll and friends, I am Harry the Forest Gnome" said the very hairy bush. Harry the Forest Gnome was the very gnome that Ralphy and Timbo, were on their way to see, only none of them knew this.   "I will be down in a moment" said Harry the Forest Gnome, "don't go anywhere".

To his word, moments later, Harry the Forest Gnome, was there behind them, none of them knew how he did it and none of them asked.   "I just saw Ralphy and hid friend Timbo leave" said Harry the Forest Gnome, "just before you arrived, they went back down the river Frog, carrying a large object wrapped in a spotted tablecloth".

The seven friend looked from one to the other, well six did, Dork was sniffing Harry the Forest Gnome.  They all wondered how they had missed the Waterfall Trolls carrying a large object wrapped in a spotted tablecloth.  They all remembered to thank Harry the Forest Gnome for the information, before saying goodby and heading quickly after Ralphy and Timbo.
