Chapter Twelve

Through Eaterford

Scotty led the way with Terry, who had his magical pocket watch out and was keeping a careful eye in it, while the others walked quietly in single file behind.  As Easterford was a busy place they thought this was the best way to proceed, although not one person seemed to notice them, they didn't even seemed to notice Nicky.

Suddenly Terry called "stop", the lucky hand on the magical pocket watch had turned red and pointed to STOP.  They all stopped immediately (well most of them did, Dork walked into the back of Weed and then stopped), just as a car drove through the river drenching them all.  Easterford got it's name from the ford that crossed the river there, although it was rarely used since the building of the bridge. Unluckily today someone decided to use the ford, luckily Terry had his magical pocket watch, or they could have been hit by the car, instead of just wet.

They all stood their with their arms out dripping river water from their fingertips and Dork was shaking the water off like a dog.  Another bit of luck was, they were wearing waterproof coats and wellies, it was also warm and sunny and they would soon dry off.

Terry looked at the magical pocket watch, the lucky hand was still red but now pointed to GO. "Is everyone ready to proceed?" asked Terry, there were a few mumblings, which Terry took as a yes, "lets get on then" he continued, "we will soon dry as we walk". There was more mumbling but they followed along behind.

As they came to the edge of town, there was some giggling from the group as they began to see the funny side of the drenching and soon they were all laughing as they walked along.

Here at the edge of town, they said goodbye to Scotty, who was leavening then now they were safely though Easterford, they also thanked him for the lovely tea.  Nicky found a hair brush in her backpack and the three girls tidied themselves before continuing.   They could now hear a waterfall not far in the distance and wondered if this was where Ralphy and Timbo were heading.

Another quick look at the magical pocket watch told Terry all he needed to know for now, the lucky hand had turned back to green and was pointing straight ahead.
